Letter from the Artistic Director
Dear friends,
Welcome to Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? at Pittsburgh Public Theater. It is an honor to share this powerful production with you, brought to life by an extraordinary team of artists and craftspeople. As the fifth production in our milestone 50th Anniversary Season, this play stands as a testament to the bold, dynamic storytelling that has defined The Public for five decades. We are especially thrilled to mark this occasion with the return of the inimitable Pamela Berlin, a director whose keen eye and deep sensitivity have shaped 11 previous productions here. From The Glass Menagerie to The Humans, Pam has given Pittsburgh audiences unforgettable theatrical experiences, and we are grateful to have her back in the O’Reilly Theater for Edward Albee’s masterwork.
Our stage is set by our formidable design team and the dazzling talents of our shops — artisans whose skill, precision, and passion ensure that every detail of this production pulses with authenticity. Their work transforms words on a page into a living, breathing world. At the center of it all are four remarkable performers. We are beyond fortunate to welcome two celebrated Broadway actors, Daniel Jenkins and Tasha Lawrence, whose remarkable artistry brings George and Martha to thrilling, volatile life. They are joined by two remarkably gifted Pittsburgh-based actors, Dylan Marquis Meyers (who you may recognize from last season's The Importance of Being Earnest) and Claire Sabatine in her Public debut. They continue to prove that this city is home to some of the finest theater artists in the country.
Together, this cast, creative team, and production staff invite you into an evening of fierce wit, brutal honesty, and aching tenderness. Thank you for joining us for this landmark season. We are so glad you’re here.
Onward,
Marya Sea Kaminski, Artistic Director

Land Acknowledgement
The ground on which we stand, at the confluence of the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio Rivers, is home to the Seneca People. They called this area Jaödeogë’ (Jaonh day ō gent’), Between Two Rivers, the crossroads of the Seneca, Lenni Lenape, Shawnee, and numerous nations who lived before, with and after them.
These Peoples, along with other nations in the Haudenosaunee (Hoe-dee-no-SHOW-nee) Confederacy, stewarded the land of this greater region; and like other First Nations across North America, their spiritual roots are buried deep within Mother Earth. We acknowledge this land and their continued spiritual connection to it as sacred.
We must also recognize the painful destruction of this connection and the injustices perpetrated on Native Communities through broken treaties and colonial occupation, resulting in enslavement, cultural genocide, forced assimilation, and dissolution of their right to independent self-governance.
Through awareness and action, we can write a new history that honors First Peoples’ spiritual connection to the land and combats Indigenous erasure, systemic racism and continued marginalization. We invite you to join us in action. Insightful information can be found at https://americanindian.si.edu and our website: https://ppt.org
