DADDY LONG LEGS

Directed by Ted Pappas and making its Pittsburgh premiere, this beguiling new musical has a literate Cinderella story at its heart.

Pittsburgh Public Theater is thrilled to present the Pittsburgh premiere of Paul Gordon and John Caird’s delightful musical, Daddy Long Legs. Directed by Ted Pappas, The Public’s Producing Artistic Director, Daddy Long Legs runs March 9 – April 9, 2017 at the O’Reilly Theater, Pittsburgh Public Theater’s home in the heart of Downtown’s Cultural District. For tickets call 412.316.1600 or buy online. Nadine Bognar is the Production Sponsor.

In Daddy Longs Legs, Jerusha Abbott (Danielle Bowen) is the oldest orphan in the John Grier Home. Her life changes when a wealthy benefactor, Jervis Pendleton (Allan Snyder), sends her to college. His one request is that she write him a monthly letter. These letters, sung by both characters, detail her coming of age and falling in love. New to Pittsburgh, Danielle Bowen has performed from Connecticut to California in musicals such as The Wizard of Oz. Now a Pittsburgh resident, Allan Snyder recently appeared in Les Misérables on Broadway and The Fantasticks Off-Broadway.

Although Daddy Long Legs is set in the early 20th century, the music is contemporary with beautifully simple, affecting melodies. Songs include “The Secret of Happiness” and “My Manhattan.” Musical Director F. Wade Russo (last year’s Guys & Dolls) will be at the piano with Elise Henkelman on cello and Ken Karsh on guitar.

The design team for Daddy Long Legs is Michael Schweikardt (Scenic), Gabriel Berry (Costumes), Phil Monat (Lighting), and Zach Moore (Sound). Casting is by Cindi Rush Casting and the Production Stage Manager is Pamela Brusoski.

Daddy Long Legs is based on the 1912 novel by Jean Webster, which was turned into the 1955 Fred Astaire-Leslie Caron movie. John Caird (Les Misérables) adapted the book for the stage with music and lyrics by Paul Gordon (musical adaptations of Sense and Sensibility and Emma). Together they wrote the Broadway musical Jane Eyre.
